Production from Woodside’s 5th LNG Train 5 started on Sunday 31 August 2008, ahead of schedule and Powertech’s team of Instrumentation Technicians and Supervisors played a pivotal role in this achievement. Completing a A$2.6 billion expansion project on budget and ahead of schedule in the current environment marks a significant milestone for Woodside as an Operator. The project involved the construction of a fifth LNG processing train – a world first in its modular construction – and associated infrastructure. The train will contribute up to 4.4 million tonnes of LNG annually, boosting total annual production to 16.3 million tonnes. It also takes total investment in the NWS project to A$25 billion.“There are many people involved when it comes to delivering a project of this scale and I’d like to thank and acknowledge all of you who have contributed to this outstanding result.” said Eve Howell, Executive Vice President, North West Shelf. “Thanks also to the commissioning team lead by Gary Robertson for achieving first LNG rundown within a week of RFSU (Ready for start up), our expectation was four weeks”, she said. In January 2008, Powertech was called upon to rapidly deploy a combined team of 25, including supervisors and instrument/electrical technicians to assist in the commissioning of Woodside's Phase V Project. Our main involvement was heavily focused on complex loop commissioning on the Train and Brownfield upgrades and evolved into an essential fault finding and solution implementation team, ensuring production/performance testing continued on schedule. As the team wound down to a mid-October 2008 finish, Powertech are proud of the safety record and work culture displayed by the team on Phase V. They have ensured our relationship with a world class business remains secure. |
